Photogrammetric Process

Aerial Photography

Aerial Mapping Solutions can acquire black and white, color, and color infrared aerial photography using camera systems equipped with Forward Motion Compensation, low distortion, high resolution lenses. These aerial mapping cameras are designed for vertical aerial photography in a 9” x 9” format. All cameras used, meet National Aerial Photography Program (NAPP) specifications and are calibrated by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The most important aspect of a project begins with a proper, accurate, flight plan customized to fit the client’s needs and wishes.  Specifically, it should ensure the flight coverage encompasses the entire mapping boundary at an appropriate flight height to allow the technician to accurately collect the data at a suitable mapping scale.

Upon completion of the flight, the film is processed and edited to verify that the coverage was adequate and the correct photo scale was maintained throughout the flight.  The film is then scanned at the appropriate pixel resolution necessary to complete all phases of the project.

Analytical Aerial Triangulation


Aerial Mapping Solutions’ Aerial Triangulation is a softcopy process.  It is completed using KLT Atlas’ integrated AT product.  We have the ability to run automatic Inner and Relative Orientations in addition to completing these tasks interactively.  We also have the capabilities to both import and export various AT software packages.  This allows us to send the final AT results to multiple users using various equipment and software packages in addition to us importing other Photogrammetric firms triangulation results.



Digital Stereo Compilation

Aerial Mapping Solutions’ compilation department uses the KLT ATLAS/DSP softplotter system for data capture.  We also incorporate the ATLAS/TIN software package for contour generation, surface modeling and volume calculations.  The ATLAS software package allows the user to identify up to 1,000 symbols and 1,000 line types for the creation of the digital landbase library. This allows us to design an explicit library for each client to cater to their specific needs.


All data is collected in a 3-Dimensional environment and can be output into either a 2-Dimensional or 3-Dimensional CAD file. Topographic data is collected using the ATLAS/TIN software package. This package allows the user to create a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and have contours generated in a real-time environment. The advantage to this procedure is the operator has the ability to check their work as the data is collected.  The software also allows the technician to scan across the model in a 3D mode to qc the data for any errors or omissions.  In addition, because of the wide range of zoom capabilities available on the DSP system, we are able to collect a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for the creation of digital orthophotography in a much shorter time frame than is usually required.


 Digital Cartographic Editing

Aerial Mapping Solutions’ edit department has over twenty-five years of cartographic experience, both in traditional hardcopy and digital techniques.  We are equipped with modern digital cartographic workstations utilizing the latest technology available. Our employees are responsible for data translations, conversions, editing, processing, and QA/QC of all the spatial information.  Software platforms used include: Bentley MicroStation V8 XM, Bentley InRoads XM Edition, I/RAS C 8.0, I/RAS B, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map, KLT/ATLAS Photogrammetric Software, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and Blue Marble Geographic Calculator Coordinate Conversion Software.  


The edit process includes but not limited to a final quality check on all data and translations to ensure consistency and accuracy in the final delivery format.  Data can be delivered in English or metric units, as well as a variety of different geographic coordinate systems.  Data delivery resources include DVD, CD-ROM, e-mail, ftp site, or hardcopy.


We also have the capabilities to convert and integrate your existing data into any new mapping data provided. This provides a seamless and comprehensive data set for inclusion into any Geographic Information System.
